Everything sits on the 8 px raster the beeldmerk is built from. Controls are 40 px tall (32 px in toolbars and table rows), table rows 44 px, page gutters 24 px, section rhythm 48 px. Comfortable, not cramped: this is a system people read contracts in.

Rules over shadows
Hierarchy comes from hairlines and ground tone, not elevation. --shadow-md is reserved for things that genuinely float — dropdowns, popovers — and --shadow-lg only for dialogs. Corners are 2–4 px: a government register, not a consumer app.
